Team Development Programs
Mission City Athletics offers developmental programming for existing youth softball teams that need additional instruction, practice leadership, facility access, coaching support, and a structured plan for long-term athlete development. These programs are designed to strengthen what a team already has in place while giving its athletes, coaches, and families access to additional knowledge, resources, and training opportunities.
The standard Developmental Team Program includes four on-field coaching visits each month. During these visits, Gabriella Guzman leads team practices, works directly with the athletes, and supports the team’s existing coaches. Practices are planned around the age, experience level, and specific needs of the team rather than following a one-size-fits-all format.
Instruction may include throwing and receiving, hitting mechanics, defensive fundamentals, pitching and catching, position-specific development, speed and agility, baserunning, communication, game preparation, and situational softball. Practices also focus on the softball IQ side of the game by helping athletes understand where to go, what decisions to make, how to communicate, and why certain situations are handled in specific ways.
Coach education is an important part of the program. Mission City Athletics works alongside the team’s current coaches to introduce age-appropriate drills, improve practice organization, identify areas requiring additional attention, and explain how skills can be taught more effectively. The purpose is not to replace the existing coaching staff, but to provide another experienced resource that can strengthen the entire program.
Families may also receive guidance on athlete development, realistic expectations, practice habits, communication, available resources, and ways to support their players away from team practices. This creates a more connected environment in which coaches, athletes, and families understand the goals of the program and their role in the development process.
In addition to four monthly coaching visits, participating teams receive up to two hours of scheduled access to The Training Lab each week. Facility time gives athletes a consistent place to receive additional repetitions in a controlled environment. Teams may use this access for hitting, pitching, catching, fielding, throwing development, movement training, softball IQ, and other areas identified in their development plan. All facility time must be scheduled in advance and is based on availability.
The standard Developmental Team Program starts at $65 per athlete per month. This rate includes four coaching visits each month and up to two hours of scheduled Training Lab access per week. Program pricing may vary based on roster size, age division, coaching needs, schedule, location, and the level of instruction requested.
If a team needs practice-field access, Mission City Athletics may assist with identifying and arranging available field space as part of the program. Field rentals are billed separately to the team and are not included in the $65-per-player monthly rate. Field availability, rental cost, lighting, location, and scheduling are determined by the facility or field provider.
Mission City Athletics also offers customized developmental programs that may include small-group instruction, specialty training, team clinics, camps, pitching and catching development, hitting programs, defensive development, speed and agility, strength and mobility, leadership instruction, coach education, parent education, or softball IQ sessions. These programs can be provided as one-time events, short-term training series, monthly partnerships, or seasonal development plans.
Pricing for customized programs is based on the number of athletes, session length, frequency, staffing, facility requirements, field expenses, equipment needs, travel, and overall program scope. Teams, schools, leagues, and community organizations may request a consultation to create a program that fits their athletes, schedule, and budget.
The goal of every Mission City Athletics developmental program is to provide athletes with quality instruction, give coaches additional tools and support, help families understand the development process, and create a stronger foundation for long-term success in softball.
